CAMRAmble – Ovingham to Wylam Linear Walk

Grade: Easy to Moderate

Mileage: 6.0 total approx.

Terrain: a walk of two parts – Whittle Dene; muddy woodland and burn side paths & stone steps; one stone stile (WALKING BOOTS OR WALKING SHOES ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED) and The River Tyne Trail; mostly tarmacked paths & pavements.

Overview: Our group will meet at The Bridge End Inn, Ovingham and then walk a circular route through Whittle Dene before returning to Ovingham and the White Swan pub. This will be our lunch stop. Afterwards we cross the river Tyne and walk to Wylam to enjoy two more pubs.

Please remember to bring credit cards, bus fares and / or passes.Dogs are allowed on our walks but please check with the pubs that they are “Dog Friendly”.Please be patient when waiting to be served at pubs.On a Saturday afternoon pubs will be very busy with diners and crowded.

Public Transport to the start point and also at the end of the walk

1.00 pm Walk starts; 2.6 miles circular route through Whittle Dene; 75 minutes

(those that do not want to take part in this stage of the ramble can re-join the group at the White Swan pub)
