Almasty Brewing Co
After months of preparation, hassles and hard work, CAMRA Tyneside & Northumberland’s newest brewery is now open for business. Almasty Brewing Co. is up and running!
Mark McGarry, who cut his teeth as a brewer with Mordue and more recently worked as head brewer for Tyne Bank Brewery is the owner of (and brewer at) Almasty Brewing Co.
Almasty – meaning “The Wild One” a name used to describe Siberian or Eastern European mystical Yeti like creatures. The brewery iconography will follow a nature/forestry/outdoorsman theme.
The brewery itself is a 10 barrel plant with 2 conical fermenting vessels. With plenty of room for expansion; It is based in Algernon Industrial estate near the Cobalt business park.
There are 120 casks and 50 kegs ready to go. Unfined and unfiltered bottle conditioned beers will also be produced using modern equipment.

An American style Brown Ale coming in at around 6% with a rich malt backbone backed up with a Citra dry hopping.
A session IPA, made with both light and slightly roasted malt and dry hopped with Mosaic, 4% ABV will make it an easy drinking thirst quencher with a huge citrus aroma and fruit punch flavour.
The next brew will be a Sorachi Saison followed by a yet to be decided launch special.
It’s still early days, so at present there is no core range, but plans are already in place for barrel aging, imperial stouts, sour beers, seasonal and festival specials.
